Adenoiditis

Did you know tonsils are not the only vulnerable glands in your mouth? Adenoids, located behind the nose and roof of your mouth, can also become infected. Enlarged and inflamed adenoids, called adenoiditis, can make breathing difficult and lead to recurring respiratory infections.

Symptoms include:

  • Sore throat
  • Stuffy nose
  • Swollen glands in the neck
  • Ear pain and other ear problems

Other symptoms related to nasal congestion include:

  • Breathing through the mouth
  • Speaking with a nasal sound
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Snoring or sleep apnea

If your child has frequent infections (ear and sinus infections) and antibiotics do not help, surgery may be needed to remove the adenoids.
