A Well-Rounded Knee Replacement Experience

Dr. John Lammli discussing knee pain with patient.

Faith Regional prioritizes educating you on what to expect before, during, and after your knee replacement. Once you and your surgeon determine knee replacement is best for you, they will explain the different surgical approaches and why they are recommending a certain one. These options include:

  • Medial Parapatellar Approach: Your surgeon works around your kneecap, providing excellent visualization and precise placement of implants. With decades of proven use, this approach offers unmatched safety and reliability.
  • Robotic Assisted Approach: Your surgeon will use robotic technology to assist them in giving you a precise and accurate knee replacement. The technology allows your surgeon to create a replacement plan individualized to your unique anatomy.

If you would like to learn more about a specific approach, please ask your orthopedic provider. They are happy to talk through options to ensure you are comfortable with the decision being made.

Once the decision is made on having a knee replacement done, our focus shifts to connecting you with our orthopedic nurse navigator. She will educate you on what to expect, how to prepare, and answer any questions you may have. Our nurse navigator will also help you sign up for our Orthopaedics in Motion class.

Orthopaedics in Motion

Orthopaedics in Motion is a class offered for total knee replacement patients and their caregivers. During the class, you will learn about:

  • How to prepare your home and yourself prior to your surgery
  • What to expect when you come to the hospital for surgery
  • The process of going home after surgery
  • Physical and occupational therapy after surgery
  • Managing pain after surgery

The goal of Orthopaedics in Motion is to follow you from beginning to end to ensure you have a smooth, comfortable total knee replacement experience at Faith Regional.

Getting You Back to a Pain-Free Life

After surgery, you will likely go home the same day as surgery or the next day. Our physical therapy team will meet you in the hospital before you go home to get you started with physical therapy. You can expect to get up and walk right away with the therapy team’s assistance.

After you leave the hospital, you will continue with physical therapy. After around 3-6 weeks, you can begin doing many everyday activities. Throughout your healing process, you will continue to follow-up with your orthopedic provider to ensure everything is healing properly and you are heading towards enjoying your pain-free life!
