Palliative Care

If you’ve been diagnosed with a serious condition or illness, such as cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or heart disease, get help to improve your symptoms, side effects, as well as your emotional and spiritual needs with palliative care.

How palliative care helps

Palliative care can help you:

  • Understand your condition
  • Explore your treatment
  • Communicate with your care team
  • Cope with your emotional and spiritual needs
  • Manage your pain
  • Create advance directives

Can palliative care help me?

If you’ve been diagnosed with a chronic or life-threatening condition, ask your doctor about palliative care. These could include:

  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Cancer
  • Chronic lung disease
  • Heart disease
  • Kidney failure
  • Liver disease
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Stroke

How is palliative care and hospice care different?

Similar to hospice care, palliative care helps improve your quality of life and provide both spiritual and emotional support. While hospice care is generally only provided toward the end of life, palliative care is for those trying to cure, slow or manage their disease regardless of life expectancy or prognosis.
